Hotter speed and turning than competition kites. Higher-quality exercise and livelier pull than power kites. WindDances are "airgear," a new concept. They fly better and feel more exciting than typical stunt kites. Our other advancements: Ergo T-handles that boost feel, control, exercise. Natural active FLY-a-kite skill. |

Reaction to our video
How do normal flyers react when they view our web video clips or VHS video, especially the "WindDance 1 at play" scene? They get out their credit cards and order!!!!
How did kite retailers react when we sent them the video? Very differently.
Don't be shocked or put off in the least by what you read in the above link. It's merely the way it is.
It doesn't have to be that way.
In addition to serving the small insular kite culture, organized kiting could foster its growth and prosperity by also reaching out to a much larger group of people: the general public. How?
- In addition to selling kites that don't FLY well in the three essential ways or provide good exercise (for the kite culture), to also sell kites that do (for the public).
- In addition to promoting difficult advanced skills that kill flight performance and purge flyers of their natural FLYING ability and prevent good exercise (for the kite culture), to also promote the easy, natural, basic skills that generate the sport's highest levels of speed & turning performance and exercise (for the public).
- In addition to selling control handles that prevent good feel & control and full use of basic skill and which hurt many flyers (for the kite culture), to also sell comfortable, natural-feeling, ergonomically-correct control handles that enhance performance, feel, exercise, and fun (for the public).
- In addition to promoting trick flying where the object is to kill off the kite's FLYING performance such as to flip it in the air and tumble it on the ground, and competition flying that requires low acceleration & speed, and power flying that strains your body but provides poor exercise (for the kite culture), to also promote a new form of sport-kiting -- WindDancing -- that's less expensive, easier, more fun-recreational, healthier for your body, safer, suitable for a wider range of wind and flyer ability, ideal for solo flying and social side-by-side flying, and provides hotter speed & turning and livelier pull (for the public).
Supermarkets offer different things for different people. From tobacco products to health foods. Kite retailers could offer a full range, too.
The public relations plan of the Kite Trade Association International (KTAI) is to boost public awareness of what the kite culture likes. But the public is turned off by kites that don't fly well, by skills that prevent your kite from flying, by control handles that hurt, and by kite flying that isn't real kite FLYING or good exercise or good recreation either (examples). Also, the public is turned off by the kite-culture's strong move away from mainstream sport & recreation (examples).
A better approach would be to promote awareness of products, skills, and flying activity that the public would take a liking to.
We at Seattle AirGear are certainly doing our part to reach out to the public to help the sport grow and succeed. We wish the rest of the trade would also.
